7 month update

What? You want me to smile or something?

Oh fine!

7 months- let's see, what have we been up to......Zoe is growing like a weed. We went to the doctor today actually to check on her ears (we had our 1st ear infection but we're all recovered now- and it was surprisingly not that bad, she's just been battling this pesty cough for weeks). Zoe weighed in at 17 lbs, 8 oz. 2 weeks ago when we went in sick, she was 16 lbs, 13 oz...so almost a full pound in 2weeks! I guess all that food is doing a body good....she's tried apple blueberries, buttnernut squash, carrots, peas, raspberries, sweet potatoes, pretty much everything I've made she's eaten which is awesome.

I'm doing about 50/50 BM v. formula now. We still do our morning nursing session which I love and which is what makes me want to keep it up. She takes 3 bottles at school (one of which is the BM I pump at work) but I have to confess, it is getting kinda frustrating. I pump 2x at work, 3 if I'm lucky, and I only get about 3 oz total each session. I don't know what's happened to my supply but I feel like it's hardly worth it to pump during the day anymore. But I'm afraid if I stop then I won't be able to keep up the morning session so I guess I'll keep at it. The weekends are good- I get to make up for lost time a little bit....but I don't know, if anyone has any advice in this area let me know b/c I'm getting kinda lost!

Still no crawling, and no teeth...but that is fine by me. For now, Zoe prefers to roll to her desired destination, which is pretty entertaining to watch. She's really into blocks and shapes, and when they roll across the hardwoods, she'll roll right after them to get them back. So cute!

Other than that, we're doing good! Taylor and I are going on our first post-baby vaca in a few weeks. We're going to Denver, just for a weekend, but I'm super excited. It will be so nice to get out of this awful heat and it will be fun to have some grown up time together!

Ta, ta for now!

  1. I don't have experience pumping at work, but I vote for dropping the work pumping sessions, or going down to just one a day. You've done an amazing job so far with BF'ing and pumping BM, but she's seven months old, and eating lots of different foods now. For your own sanity, just keep the nursing sessions you want to keep, and drop the pumping. I just dropped my before-bed pumping (Julia was getting a BM bottle before her bedtime and then I'd pump an hour or two later for the next night) because it wasn't worth it. Supply was gradually diminishing and I felt guilty and sad but it just wasn't making sense anymore. You could go through extraordinary measures to get supply back up (extra pumping, fenugreek, etc.) and if she were younger, maybe it'd be worth it, but she's more than halfway through her first year. I say cut yourself some slack.

FWIW, I'm down to three nursing sessions a day - 6:30 am, 10:30 am, and 1:30 pm, and my supply is still fine. When Julia's around a year, I plan to cut out the last two, but I'm keeping that morning one as long as I can because I love it. I hear lots of women are able to keep up with one or two nursing sessions a day.

Also - this is a fantastic article - http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2009/04/the-case-against-breast-feeding/7311/1/ . No matter what you decide to do, it's worth a read. I keep going back to it every few months.

She's growing beautifully! Keep up the good work, Momma!
